A.J. Thomas is a Contract Compliance Officer with the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), which provides overall strategic coordination for the City’s workforce system, manages major public-private development projects to maximize long-term public benefits, including affordable housing, jobs, and economic development, and seeks to attract and retain businesses within San Francisco, with an emphasis on key industry clusters. Prior to arriving at OEWD, A.J. previously worked in insurance, banking, finance, and even as a barista.

As a child of union pensioner retirees, A.J. is a proud member of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) Local 21, where he has spent years serving as an elected chapter officer, delegate to the San Francisco Labor Council, the San Francisco Building & Construction Trades Council, and as chairperson of the IFPTE Local 21 SFERS Retirement Board Oversight and Political Action Committees.

A.J. was the first in his family to graduate from college where he earned degrees in Political Science and Political Economics before coming to San Francisco to attend law school at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he also earned his Juris Doctor degree.
