Work After Retirement

Generally, safety members who retire from the City and County of San Francisco (CCSF) or a member employer, may return to work for an employer other than CCSF or a member employer, without affecting his/her benefits.

However, as a safety member, if you choose to return to work for CCSF or a member employer after retirement, you may only work up to a maximum of 960 hours in any fiscal year. For more information on “return to work” provisions, please contact the Retirement System.

Charter provisions may restrict your ability to work for any employer while receiving a disability retirement benefit.
