A.J. Thomas is a Contract Compliance Officer on the CityBuild team with the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), which provides overall strategic coordination for the City’s workforce system, emphasizing key industry clusters. He is an attorney and a member of the State Bar of California. Commissioner Thomas formerly worked for Travelers Insurance on the staff counsel team and at Bank of America, where he worked in the consumer banking unit. Commissioner Thomas is an elected member-delegate with IFPTE Local 21, where he previously served as SFERS pension oversight committee chair. Commissioner Thomas holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, a master’s degree in international political economy from American University, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, College of the Law. He was elected to his first term on the Retirement Board in 2021 and has served on the Deferred Compensation, Investment, Operations, and Personnel committees. Commissioner Thomas was elected to serve as Vice President in 2023.
