Membership

You are a member of the SFERS Sheriff Plan A8.608 if on or after January 7, 2012, you meet at least one of the following criteria:

Are hired from a Civil Service list as a permanent employee in a job classification covered by the provisions for pension under the SFERS Sheriff Plan

Are appointed to a full-time permanent exempt position in a job classification covered by the provisions for pension under the SFERS Sheriff Plan

Work in a temporary/provisional position for 1,040 hours in any 12-month period* in a job classification covered by the provisions for pension under the SFERS Sheriff Plan

Employees working in a temporary/provisional position are eligible for SFERS membership after having earned 1,040 hours in any 12-month period. Prior to reaching 1,040 hours, you will receive a letter from SFERS informing you of the date you are eligible for retirement membership, along with instructions for completing the new member enrollment process.
