Membership

You are a member of the SFERS Sheriff Plan if on or after January 7, 2012, you meet at least one of the following criteria:

Employees working in a temporary/provisional position are eligible for SFERS membership after having earned 1,040 hours in any 12-month period. Prior to reaching 1,040 hours, you will receive a letter from SFERS informing you of the date you are eligible for retirement membership, along with instructions for completing the new member enrollment process.

2. Designate a beneficiary
1. Employee processing form (from the hiring department).

2. Picture ID
1. Elect reciprocity (if applicable)

2. Log in to mySFERS (30 days after enrollment)

3. Enroll in the San Francisco Deferred Compensation 457(b) Plan (SFDCP)

Service Retirement

Membership for the Sheriff Plan A8.608 is based on being hired on or after 1.7.2012.

Average Final pensionable compensationHighest average monthly pay in any three consecutive fiscal years or, average monthly pay in the 36 consecutive months immediately prior to retirement

*Maximum annual benefit is 90% of the average final pensionable compensation
